As the busy season winds up with the students back in town and football season right around the corner, we have two opportunities for you to give back to your community with as little effort as going out to dinner. The Athens community is as close knit as they come, and while there are lots of opportunities for philanthropy here, we think that these two causes are particularly important for the well being of our children and families.
Thursday, August 21st, we will be participating in Dine Out for Kids. Sponsored by the Georgia Restaurant Association, restaurants all over the state will be giving 10% of their sales on the 21st to Family Connections-Communities in Schools, an organization whose purpose is to prevent kids from dropping out of school by providing them the resources they need to excel in school, the work force, and beyond.
Thursday, August 28th, we will be donating 10% of our sales to Jan Kozak‘s campaign for Dancing With the Athens Stars, benefiting Project Safe. Each year, well known community members are paired with dance professionals to compete to be able to say that they have the best moves in town. Just to get a chance to participate, they have to raise a significant amount of money for Project Safe through People’s Choice votes. If you want to see Jan Kozak, Athens Farmers Market manager, director of 1000 Faces, and assistant program director of Wholesome Wave Georgia, wiggle his booty in front of a whole lot of people, help us vote with our dollars by dining with us on the 28th. You can also contribute directly to Jan’s campaign here. Project Safe is a 501c3 non profit organization working to end domestic violence through prevention and educational programs, crisis intervention, ongoing supportive services for survivors of domestic violence and their children, and advocacy/systems change work in our community.
